$30,000. That’s the magic number we need to raise with our Hike this year to meet our obligations and be able to provide support at no cost to your friends and neighbours — or maybe even you or a close family member!
Sunday, October 2, dawned bright and breezy — a perfect day for a kickoff! People came and signed up to hike, picked up pledge sheets and instructions for how to sign up online, had some interesting conversations with members of the organization, found useful information about HHNL, hung a memorial flag in memory of a loved one, wandered along the beautiful Alameda in Almonte, had a Civitan lunch and a piece of birthday cake. Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the day with us.
Jan Watson, Chair of the Board of Home Hospice North Lanark asked people to gather around and spoke about HHNL:
“Today is a day of gratitude, remembrance, and celebration. Thanks to the vision of a small group of people 10 years ago, and the work of many people since, we are excited about our future. We are confident that we will continue to reach more and more people who will benefit from our support.
“Our calls have multiplied by more than 8 times over the last year. Clearly the message is getting out there. We receive calls from people in every corner of North Lanark — from Pakenham to Beckwith, Clayton to McDonald’s Corners and Ashton — and of course, Carleton Place and Almonte.”
She went on to remind everyone that all of HHNL’s services are funded by donations and fundraising events. She also encouraged people to join the HHNL team as a Visiting Volunteer, Board Member or event volunteer.
Mississippi Mills Mayor Christa Lowry and Carleton Place Mayor Doug Black conveyed best wishes and encouragement on behalf of both towns. Rev. Barry Carr, a Director on the HHNL Board shared some lovely thoughts with those in attendance.
We’re halfway through October, and we have a way to go to reach our goal, so we’re reminding you that you have the whole month to complete your hike. You can hike on one of the beautiful trails in our area, wander around one of our pretty towns or villages, walk on a treadmill at the gym, or simply around your own home.
